Selling plans & subscriptions

Akira supports Shopify selling plans natively, so subscription products display correctly throughout the purchase flow without any extra theme configuration once a subscriptions app has set the plans up.

What Akira shows on the product page

When a product has selling plan groups configured, Akira displays a selector on the product page letting the customer choose between a one-time purchase and a subscription option. The customer's choice updates the price and purchase button as needed before they add the product to their cart.

Selling plans carry through the cart

Once a subscription option is added to the cart, the chosen selling plan is shown as a label under the relevant line item, both in the cart drawer and on the full cart page. This makes it clear to the customer exactly what they're purchasing and how often it will recur.

The selling plan also appears against the relevant order in the customer's order history, so they can confirm their subscription details after checkout.

You need a subscriptions app

Akira does not create or manage selling plans itself. To offer subscriptions, install a subscriptions app such as Shopify Subscriptions and configure the selling plan groups for the products you want to sell on a recurring basis. Akira's role is to render whichever selling plans exist correctly, wherever they need to appear: the product page, the cart, and order history.

Tip: Test a subscription purchase end to end after setting up a new selling plan, from the product page through to the cart and a completed order, to confirm the plan label is showing exactly as you expect.
