The brief

The Good Oil Company supplies essential oils, blends and carrier oils in New Zealand. In a category full of purity claims, their difference is that every oil is independently GC-MS tested.

The store had to make that proof visible everywhere it matters, without turning a calm, sensory product into a lab report.

There was a second audience too. Alongside retail buyers, the company supplies businesses and manufacturers, so the store needed a clear route for trade enquiries without turning the retail store into a catalogue for buyers.

Pure essential oils, and the proof.

The homepage leads with two plain promises, independently GC-MS tested and NZ owned and operated, then routes straight into essential oils, blends and carrier oils. Best sellers, a starter kit for newcomers and the ProvenPure quality standard follow.

A "Shop by Category" block and a dedicated "Buying for a Business?" route close the page for trade buyers.

Quality you can see on the page.

Each oil shows its botanical name, a one-line scent profile, size options and the ProvenPure quality badge right beside add to cart, with free NZ shipping thresholds stated plainly.

Overview, how to use, safety and storage and questions each have their own tab, so the detail is there without crowding the decision.

What we did

A store where the quality claim is proven on every page, not just stated once.

Under the hood

Proves

Merchant-ready structured dataShopify development

A lean store with unusually complete product data.

The store runs on the Xclusive theme, version 3.4, and the live theme is still the working copy we named and published, dated 29 April 2026 in its title. Three things stand out in the live page source:

  • No app embeds on the homepage. We found no third-party app scripts on the homepage at all, only Shopify’s own code and the store’s Google tags. Every other store in this portfolio that we re-measured on 3 October loaded app scripts.
  • Merchant-ready structured data. Product pages output Product schema with brand, SKU and GTIN, and an Offer with a merchant return policy and shipping details by region. The homepage adds Organization schema with an address and contact point, plus the return policy and shipping service. That is the data Google’s merchant listings look for.
  • Proof on its own pages. The ProvenPure quality standard has a dedicated page linked from the homepage, and the ProvenPure badge appears on product pages next to add to cart.
  • A route for trade buyers. “Buying for a Business?” leads to a wholesale and manufacturing page, and free NZ shipping on orders over $49 is stated on the homepage and product pages.

Lean, app-free homepageShopify theme development

Checked on 3 October 2026.

We re-read the live store on 3 October 2026. These figures describe the store as it runs today.

  • Lean by design: of the nine client stores we re-measured on 3 October 2026, this one loaded the least third-party code, with no app scripts on the homepage.

For similar merchants

Proof beats claims.

In wellness and natural products, every brand says its product is pure. The Good Oil Company’s advantage is that it can show independent testing, so the store is built to put that proof where decisions are made: on the homepage, on every product and on a page of its own.

The other lesson is restraint. With no app scripts on the homepage, the store stays lean, and the work goes into content and structured data instead. That leaves room to add tools later, one at a time, measuring each.

If you sell to both consumers and businesses, give trade buyers their own clear route from the retail store. It keeps retail simple and makes sure wholesale enquiries land in the right place.

Questions

What structured data helps a Shopify product appear in Google shopping results?

Product schema with name, brand, SKU or GTIN, price, currency and availability, plus a merchant return policy and shipping details. The Good Oil Company's product pages output all of these today.

Should a retail store also handle wholesale enquiries?

It can, with a clear and separate route. The Good Oil Company uses a Buying for a Business link to a wholesale and manufacturing page, so trade buyers find the right place without cluttering the retail store.

How do you show product testing on a Shopify store?

Put the proof where decisions are made: a short promise on the homepage, a badge on every product and a dedicated page that explains the standard in full. Repeating it in each place matters more than saying it once in detail.
