Miko Subscribe & Save vs Recharge

We make one of these two, so read this with that in mind and check both listings yourself. What follows states Recharge's real advantages rather than a straw man, because a comparison that only flatters us is worth nothing to you.

Choose on the thing that actually constrains you

Recharge is the better choice when you run a large programme that depends on a specific integration in their ecosystem, when you need Shopify POS subscription support, or when procurement wants a vendor with years of public track record. Those are genuine reasons and we will say so on a call rather than argue.

Miko is the better choice when the transaction percentage is what hurts as you scale, when you want retention tooling available on the low tiers rather than gated behind an enterprise plan, or when you would rather talk to the people who wrote the code.

Common questions

What is the main difference between Miko Subscribe & Save and Recharge?

Cost structure and scale. Recharge is the established platform for large subscription programmes, with a deep integration ecosystem and thousands of reviews. Miko is a flat monthly fee with no percentage of your subscription revenue, aimed at merchants who want the retention machinery without a transaction cut.

Does Recharge charge a percentage of subscription revenue?

Yes. Recharge's published pricing lists processing fees of 1.49% plus 19 cents per transaction on the Starter plan, on top of the monthly fee. Miko Subscribe & Save charges a flat monthly fee by subscriber count and takes no percentage of what you sell.

How do the monthly prices compare?

Recharge's own pricing page lists Starter at $99 a month, and their Shopify App Store listing shows plans from $25 a month. Miko Subscribe & Save is free up to 50 active subscribers, $7.99 a month up to 300, $12.99 a month up to 2,000, and $19.99 a month for unlimited subscribers. Compare the transaction fees as well as the monthly figure, because on a growing programme the percentage usually matters more.

Which one is more mature?

Recharge, clearly, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. It has been on the App Store for years, holds a 4.8 rating across roughly 3,000 reviews, and integrates with Klaviyo, Gorgias, Attentive, Avalara, Stripe and Shopify POS. Miko Subscribe & Save is new and does not have that track record yet.

So when would Miko be the better choice?

When the transaction percentage is the thing that hurts, when you want retention tooling on the free or low tiers rather than gated behind an enterprise plan, or when you would rather deal directly with the team that wrote the code than with a support queue.

When would Recharge be the better choice?

When you are running a large programme that depends on a specific integration in their ecosystem, when you need Shopify POS subscription support, or when procurement requires a vendor with a long public track record. Those are real reasons and we will tell you so on a call.

Do both use Shopify's native subscription contracts?

Yes. Both build on Shopify's selling plans and subscription contracts, so the underlying billing relationship sits with Shopify in both cases. That is what makes migrating between subscription apps possible at all.

Can I migrate from Recharge to Miko?

Often yes, and it depends on what can be exported and whether the payment tokens move. Send us your setup and we will tell you honestly whether a clean migration is possible before you commit. If it is not, we will say that.

Do both have a self-serve customer portal?

Yes. Recharge has a no-code customizable portal. Miko uses a passwordless magic-link portal, which removes the login step entirely at the cost of the customer needing to request a fresh link rather than bookmarking one.

Do both recover failed payments?

Yes, and it is table stakes. Recharge advertises AI-powered retries recovering up to 88% of failed payments. Miko retries automatically against Shopify's billing attempts with dunning reminders and SMS on paid plans.

What about churn prevention?

Recharge has no-code cancellation journeys and cohort benchmarking against other brands. Miko scores churn from your own store's history rather than a shared model, and drafts save offers for a human to approve before anything is sent.

Does either work without Shopify Plus?

Both work on standard Shopify plans. Neither requires Plus for core subscription selling.

Can I manage subscriptions from an AI assistant?

Miko ships an MCP server, so subscriptions can be managed from ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot with scoped permissions. Recharge does not advertise an equivalent at the time of writing.

Who builds Miko Subscribe & Save?

Tripster Developers, a certified Shopify Partner building on the platform since 2016, with our own apps published on the Shopify App Store. The build note for this app explains the architecture in detail.

Is this comparison biased?

We make one of these two products, so treat it accordingly and check both listings yourself. What we have tried to do is state Recharge's genuine advantages plainly rather than write a straw man, because a comparison that only flatters us is worth nothing to you and is easy to catch out.

Not sure which fits?

Tell us the size of your programme and what is bothering you about your current setup. If Recharge is the right answer we will tell you that.
