The brief

Ferkos started with us on a Basic Shopify plan. Eight years later they run on Shopify Plus, and the store has grown with them the whole way: new collections, lab-grown lines, piercing.

Fine jewelry has to feel expensive online without feeling slow. The job has always been to let the pieces carry the page, and make everything around them quiet and fast.

The constant across those eight years has been scale. Each new line, from lab-grown pieces to piercing, adds variants in metal, colour and size, and every one of them has to be listed, photographed and kept correct on more than one sales channel.

01Homepage

Campaign-led, with the pieces up close.

The homepage is built around campaigns like "A new way to stack", with close editorial photography of the pieces as they are worn. Collection shortcuts, from gold earrings to lab-grown pieces, follow, then the brand story and the Instagram feed.

02Collections & filtering

Filtering and wishlistShopify theme development

Hundreds of pieces, easy to narrow.

Collections like Trending run to hundreds of pieces, so filtering and sorting sit right at the top of the grid, and each card shows the metal options as swatches before a customer opens the product.

03Product page

Styled, not just listed.

The product page leads with "Ready to ship" and a "Style it with" row of pieces that pair with it. Colour and unit are clear choices, free US shipping and a ship-by date sit next to add to bag, and the details are written like a jeweller would describe the piece.

04Mobile

Just as considered on a phone.

On a phone the campaign imagery, the metal swatches and the add to bag all hold up, so a piece can be chosen and paid for in a few taps.

Custom themeShopify theme development

A custom theme, a rich catalogue and two channels.

The storefront runs on a custom theme built on Shopify’s Slate framework rather than an off-the-shelf theme, which is what lets the campaign layouts and product pages look the way they do. These are the pieces visible on the live store in October 2026:

  • Product data a search engine can read. Product pages output structured data with brand, category, material, colour, size, SKU, item condition and a merchant return policy, so the attributes jewellery buyers filter on are machine-readable too.
  • Wishlist and save for later. A wishlist button sits on collection cards and product pages, with a wishlist page and a floating link, so a customer can shortlist pieces across visits.
  • Reviews, loyalty, email and video. The live page source loads Yotpo for reviews and loyalty, Klaviyo for email, a shoppable video section on the homepage, digital gift cards and a Zendesk support widget.
  • One product record, two storefronts. Since July 2026 we have also built their new-product pipeline. From September 2026, one product record produces draft listings for both Shopify Plus and their Etsy shop, and nothing reaches either store until someone on their team presses Send (our project notes, Sep 2026).

That last rule came from working with their team, not from a spec. A jewellery listing that goes live with the wrong metal or size code costs more to fix than it saves, so the system drafts and a person decides.

Measured today

Checked on 3 October 2026.

We re-read the live store and Google’s real-visitor data on 3 October 2026. The store is in active use and changes often, so this is a snapshot.

  • Real visitors (Google Chrome UX Report, whole store, phones, 75th percentile, 28 days to 3 Oct 2026): Interaction to Next Paint 129 ms and Cumulative Layout Shift 0.04, both inside Google’s “good” thresholds for real mobile visitors.
  • Languages and markets: the homepage declares an en-US version and an x-default fallback in its hreflang tags, and prices are shown in US dollars.

For similar merchants

Growing from Basic to Plus without starting again.

Ferkos did not replatform to grow. The same store moved from a Basic plan to Shopify Plus as the business needed it, and the theme, catalogue and integrations moved with it. For a jeweller that matters, because years of product URLs, reviews and search history stay in place.

Fine jewellery catalogues get large quickly because every piece multiplies by metal, stone and size. The lesson from this account is to treat product data as the asset: consistent variant codes, attributes written into structured data, and a draft-first workflow whenever the same piece is listed on a marketplace like Etsy.

If you sell considered, high-value pieces, the page design should stay quiet and the data underneath should be precise. That combination is what keeps a large catalogue fast to browse and easy to maintain.

Questions

Can a Shopify store move from Basic to Shopify Plus without a rebuild?

Yes. Upgrading the plan does not change the store, its theme, its products or its URLs. Ferkos moved from Basic to Shopify Plus over the course of our partnership while keeping the same storefront and catalogue.

How do you keep a jewellery catalogue consistent across Shopify and Etsy?

Keep one product record as the source of truth and generate each channel's listing from it, with consistent variant codes for metal, stone and size. For Ferkos the listings are created as drafts, and a person on their team presses Send before anything goes live.
