What we looked for
Not every app that mentions "rentals" on the Shopify App Store is actually built for physical product rentals. To be included in this comparison, an app had to be functional, actively maintained, and relevant to merchants renting physical goods: cameras, equipment, furniture, outdoor gear, party supplies, or similar. We evaluated each app against the following criteria:
- Native Shopify date picker: The availability calendar must appear on the product page itself, not redirect to an external booking site
- Multi-unit inventory per variant: The app must support more than one unit of a given product or variant being available for rent simultaneously
- Deposit collection: The ability to charge a security deposit at checkout and release or forfeit it from the dashboard
- Automated emails: Booking confirmation emails and return reminder emails sent without manual intervention
- Booking management dashboard: A central view of all bookings, their status, and tools to manage the rental lifecycle
- No-code install: The date picker and availability widget should install without custom code or theme edits
- Free trial or plan: At least a trial period so merchants can evaluate the app before committing
- Active development and support: Recent updates and a responsive support team
The apps we compared
Search the Shopify App Store for "rental" and you get more than twenty results, but most are appointment or event booking tools. The six below are built for renting physical products or explicitly support it. If you came here looking for a Shopify rental plugin: on Shopify, plugins are called apps, and each of these installs from the App Store.
Two well-known rental platforms, Booqable and TWICE (formerly Rentle), are not on the Shopify App Store. They are standalone systems, covered after the six apps. Simple Rental, which appeared in the June edition of this comparison, no longer shows up in App Store search, so we have removed it.
1. Miko Product Rentals & Hire: our pick for adding rentals to products you already sell
Publisher: Tripster Developers (Auckland, NZ), who publish the Miko family of Shopify apps. App Store: apps.shopify.com/miko-product-rentals. Rating: no reviews yet (launched 25 June 2026).
Miko adds a rental and hire layer to products you already sell. Customers pick dates on the product page and book through your normal cart and checkout, with no separate booking flow or draft orders. The date picker is a theme app block, so it goes in from the theme editor without code.
Each booking carries a rental fee plus a refundable deposit. Active rentals, returns, late fees and deposit refunds are managed from one dashboard. Multi-unit inventory and date-aware availability prevent overbooking, and Miko sends booking confirmations, return reminders and overdue emails for you.

Verdict: Our pick if you already sell on Shopify and want to rent out some of the same products. Deposits and all three reminder emails are on the free plan, and every booking goes through Shopify's own checkout. It is new, so it has no reviews yet; the free plan lets you test it on your own catalog first.
2. Product Rentals Pro: established and dedicated to physical rentals
App Store: Product Rentals Pro. Rating: 5.0 from 51 reviews, with Shopify's Built for Shopify badge. On the App Store since July 2024.
Product Rentals Pro puts a booking calendar on product pages and gives you admin tools for fulfilments and returns. You can set default buffers per delivery method, for example longer for posted items than for pickups, offer "Rent or Buy" on the same product, and charge for an insurance upsell.

Verdict: A proven choice with the reviews to back it. Security deposits start on the Growth plan.
3. IzyRent: rentals plus bookings, events and appointments
App Store: IzyRent: Rentals & Bookings by SPEAZ. Rating: 4.6 from 128 reviews, with the Built for Shopify badge. On the App Store since February 2021.
IzyRent covers rentals alongside accommodation-style bookings, events, services and appointments. Availability is worked out dynamically rather than set date by date, and bookings can sync with Google Calendar, iCalendar and Airbnb.
- Free: 3 products, 15 days on the calendar, deposits and pay later, add-ons and booking requests
- Pro ($24.99/mo): unlimited products and calendar days, reminders
Verdict: Good value if you rent a few items and also take other kinds of bookings. The free plan's three-product limit is tight for an equipment catalog.
4. FlexCon Rental Booking, Hire: hourly or daily hire, with rent-to-own
App Store: FlexCon Rental Booking, Hire by FlexConversion. Rating: 5.0 from 23 reviews. On the App Store since July 2025.
FlexCon offers hourly and daily booking with a customizable calendar, buffers between rentals, security deposits and full rental order management. Customers can also buy the item outright or book an in-store try-on, and you can create rentals manually in POS or in the app.
- Free: 10 rental orders a month, rent by date or time, shipping, pickup and local delivery
- Growth ($19.99/mo): 100 rental orders a month, availability calendar view, duration discounts, add-on upsells
- Professional ($59.99/mo): 300 rental orders a month, rent-to-own, priority support
Verdict: Worth a look for fashion, sports and event hire, and the only app here that lists rent-to-own on its plans.
5. Rentshelf: a low-cost option for a small rental range
App Store: Rentshelf ‑ Product Rentals by Skytech Services. Rating: 5.0 from 2 reviews. On the App Store since May 2026.
Rentshelf handles rental dates, deposits, add-ons and returns, with daily, tiered and fixed pricing and a customer self-service portal.
- Free: up to 3 rental products, bookings up to 15 days ahead
- Starter ($9.99/mo or $99/yr): up to 25 rental products, bookings up to 90 days ahead, pickup and return reminder emails
- Growth ($19.99/mo or $199/yr): unlimited rental products, bookings up to 365 days ahead, waitlist and rental agreements, Google and Outlook Calendar, Klaviyo
Verdict: The cheapest paid entry point in this list. It is new, with two reviews so far.
6. BTA Appointment Booking App: a general booking app that handles rentals
App Store: BTA Appointment Booking App (BookThatApp) by BTA Commerce. Rating: 4.7 from 411 reviews. On the App Store since 2012, the longest-running app here.
BTA is a scheduling app for rentals, tours, tickets, events, services and classes, so it suits a store where rentals are one of several things customers book.
- Free: 10 bookings
- Lite ($25/mo): 50 bookings a month, Google Calendar integration
- Premium ($49.95/mo): 350 bookings a month, deposits and bonds, your own SMTP server, SMS notifications
- Business ($110/mo): 1,000 bookings a month, API access
Verdict: Choose it if rentals sit alongside other bookings. Deposits start on the Premium plan.
Standalone rental platforms
These two are not Shopify apps. They are complete rental systems in their own right, which suits a business where renting is the whole operation rather than an add-on to a store.
Booqable: for businesses where rental is the entire operation
Booqable is standalone rental software with its own dashboard for inventory, orders, quotes, contracts and invoices, and a Shopify integration for merchants who want rentals on a Shopify store. Rental stock and orders are managed in Booqable's own system.
Pricing: the Start plan is USD 29 a month billed yearly, or USD 35 month to month, with a 14-day free trial. All plans include unlimited inventory and orders.
Strengths: depth for rental-only businesses: quotes, contracts, e-signatures, packing slips, per-order and per-product security deposits, and an iOS and Android app for staff as a paid add-on. Weaknesses: it is a second system to run next to Shopify, and there is no free plan. We compare the two approaches in detail in Miko Product Rentals vs Booqable.
TWICE (formerly Rentle): rental and resale platform
Rentle is now part of TWICE Commerce, a standalone platform for rental and resale businesses. Pricing is per inventory location: 199 EUR a month each, with the first location at 50% off (99 EUR) when we checked, and a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. We could not find a current Shopify integration page on its site, so confirm how it would connect to your store before you commit.

If you already sell on Shopify and want to rent out some of the same products, start with the free plans. Miko Product Rentals & Hire (our app) includes deposits and reminder emails for free, and Product Rentals Pro is the established alternative with 51 five-star reviews. Book a test rental through checkout on each; the right one is whichever fits your products and your returns process.
If you also take appointments, events or accommodation bookings, IzyRent or BTA cover rentals alongside them. For hourly hire or rent-to-own, look at FlexCon. For a handful of rental products on a tight budget, Rentshelf is the cheapest paid option.
If renting is your entire business rather than an add-on, a standalone platform like Booqable or TWICE gives you contracts, quotes and warehouse workflows, at the cost of running a second system next to Shopify.
